Edgerton men\'s shoes were known for their high-quality craftsmanship and classic styles, appealing to those who valued durability and elegance in their footwear. The brand was part of the Jarman Shoe Company, a well-regarded American shoe manufacturer established in the early 20th century.
Jarman Shoe Company, founded by James Franklin Jarman and William Hatch Wemyss in 1924 in Nashville, Tennessee, became known for producing a variety of men\'s footwear. The Edgerton line was one of its more upscale offerings, focusing on finely crafted leather shoes that were both stylish and comfortable.
Edgerton shoes were popular among men who appreciated traditional design and meticulous attention to detail. The brand was particularly known for its dress shoes, including oxfords and loafers, favored for business and formal occasions.
Over time, as the American shoe industry faced increasing competition from overseas manufacturers, many traditional brands like Edgerton faced challenges. Despite these difficulties, Edgerton maintained a loyal customer base for many years, appreciated for its classic American shoe-making heritage.
While the Edgerton name may not be as widely recognized today, it remains a part of the rich history of American footwear, representing a time when quality and craftsmanship were the hallmarks of the industry.
